NAGOYA, Japan - Menicon Co., Ltd.’s "Magic," a daily disposable contact lens pack that provides wearers with both functionality and ultra-thin portability through its minimalist design, won the 2012 Gold Award for Brand and Identity Experience at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Gold Awards for package design were also clinched at the CLIO and The One Show awards, adding to Magic’s list of accolades.
Magic has also received high praise for its integrated marketing approach, which conceives of a product’s name, package design, logo, website, communications and advertising holistically, up to and including in-store merchandising. The effectiveness of this approach has been evidenced in the range of awards Magic has garnered thus far, and Menicon is confident that it will be further validated by consumer demand when Magic becomes available throughout Japan starting in August.

About Cannes Lions
Cannes Lions began as a part of the Cannes International Film Festival as a competition for movie theater advertisement films, but became independent from 1954 as the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. In 2011 the name was changed to the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. It is now the most highly-regarded of many international advertising awards due to its large scale, jury composition, and high level of submissions and winning entries. The 2012 Festival was held in mid-June in Cannes, France.

Magic’s novel flat pack, created through Menicon’s proprietary technology, measures an astonishing thickness of just 1mm, about the same as a credit card. As the world’s flattest and most compact lens pack, Magic offers unprecedented convenience for storage and carrying. The flat-pack’s unique design is also highly hygienic. Besides ensuring easy lens removal, it exposes the outer surface of the lens first, reducing the possibility of touching the inner surface of the lens and therefore the risk of bacteria or debris from coming into contact with the eye.
