Menicon named Contact Lens Supplier of the Year at The Optician Awards 2021

 

 

 

Menicon Limited (Menicon UK) has scooped the award for Contact Lens Supplier of the Year at this year’s The Optician Awards.

The Optician Awards recognise the excellence of practices and businesses in the optical industry and over 500 guests from across the industry gathered in London to attend the awards ceremony, celebrating the key achievements during the past year.

Over a period in which the optometry industry has faced unprecedented challenges, Menicon has excelled, finding new ways to support customers and staff whilst continuing to innovate, introducing new products, and pursuing a programme of remote education and training for optical practitioners.

The launch of the virtual E-Learning Academy offered the first in a series of free e-learning modules to help eye care practitioners understand the features of the Menicon Miru range and Menicon restructured its work practices to allow for safe manufacturing, launching new products such as the Miru 1day Flat Pack Multifocal - Miru’s first daily lens for presbyopia in the UK. This was recognised by the judges who awarded the highly regarded Contact Lens Supplier of the Year to the team.

The judges commented, “All the giants of the industry are making huge efforts but the judges chose a winner that ticked all of those boxes and showed unstinting support for people outside and inside the business.”

Upon receiving the award, Kevin Mitchell, Managing Director of Menicon UK, said, “At Menicon, caring for customers starts with caring for employees and the team is incredibly proud to win this award. By firstly creating a safe work environment for employees, we were able to ensure continuity of service across our lens design, manufacturing and customer services teams.”

“Working throughout the pandemic, we were able to produce and distribute lenses, provide remote training and education, and offer reassurance to customers. The team has worked incredibly hard to support eye care practitioners in hospitals and community settings, helping them to deliver vital services to their patients,” Kevin Mitchell stated.

Menicon was also shortlisted in the Sustainability Category at the awards. Innovation is a core Menicon principle and sustainability is at the heart of its business activities - spanning material development, lens design, and the manufacture of contact lenses and care solutions.

Looking ahead, Menicon will strive to go beyond its commitments to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 by continuing to innovate and improve across all areas of the business to further reduce both its carbon footprint and its impact on the environment.
