Keeping our eyes hydrated leads to happier and healthier vision.

This week marks the 11th year of Nutrition and Hydration Week - an annual event which brings people from all around the world together to create energy and focus around the importance of maintaining health through nutrition and hydration.

It’s universally known that good nutrition and hydration is vital to support our bodies and overall well being. However, whilst many people would associate the phrase “hydrating” with drinking the recommended 6-8 glasses of water per day, few consider the important role that hydration plays in maintaining good eye health.

Whilst keeping our bodies hydrated is vital for our health, keeping our eyes hydrated is equally as important. For ECPs, educating customers on the benefits of good hydration, and the risks associated with dry eyes, is the key to happier and healthier vision.

Dry Eye is a condition that many will face - both contact lens wearers and non-contact lens wearers alike. Whilst it’s not usually something to worry about too much, those experiencing symptoms can still experience discomfort, itchiness and blurred vision. However, there are plenty of ways to ease symptoms, or even better, lower your patient’s risk of developing Dry Eye in the first place.

Overwearing of contact lenses, or wearing contact lenses that are the wrong prescription or the wrong fit, can all lead to the development of Dry Eye. With this in mind, patients need to know how to wear their lenses safely and effectively. For ECPs, ensuring that patients receive the most effective lenses to suit their individual needs, can help to lessen the likelihood of developing a preventable condition, or in some cases, improve any issues they might already be experiencing.

Whilst hydrating lenses can help to combat Dry Eye, daily contact lenses are also considered to be the best option for contact lens wearers who are already experiencing discomfort from the condition.

Our ultra-hydrating daily disposable lens, Miru 1day Menicon Flat Pack, provides contact lens wearers with a solution that keeps eyes healthy by locking in moisture and allowing rapid lens rehydrations with each blink. The lens is made from Hioxifilcon A, which supports an optimum tear layer on the cornea. With high water attraction and binding capabilities, it reduces dryness and enhances comfort. All of this, paired with its smooth low-friction surface, gives eye patients confidence in knowing that their lenses will keep their eyes sufficiently hydrated and ultimately, help to prevent the development of Dry Eye, or improve symptoms for those already living with it.

Miru 1day Menicon Flat Pack is available in Sphere, Toric and Multifocal options, and you can find out more about it here.

This Nutrition and Hydration Week, we want to thank all of our ECPs who dedicate their time to improving vision for their eye patients, and encourage them to continue championing good eye health by reminding customers to keep their eyes hydrated, happy and healthy!
