For the very young, they are usually fitted for medical reasons, with spectacular results not  only in visual acuity   and tolerance, but in awareness in babies and very young children.

Children of school age handle their lenses with ease, and request earlier fits for both    practical and aesthetic reasons. A great many specialists are of the opinion that RGP lens wear can slow down the progression of myopia in young children and that it therefore deserves to be tested.

With teenagers and older, the motivation is more for aesthetic or practical reasons.  Many  no longer wish to wear glasses and look forward to continuous lens wear...
